Why is formative assessment so important?
Research shows that adhering to the principles of effective assessment practices significantly improves student outcomes by increasing student motivation (Dweck, 2007), which consequently increases student self-regulation (Hattie & Timperley, 2007) and engagement in learning and assessment (McDonald & Boud, 2003).
